Training Philosophy

Do you have a training program? A training plan? Fellow rowers will often ask you about this. Do you politely smile in response? Maybe its time to develop a plan or find someone who can create one for you. How serious are you about rowing? How much time do you devote to your favourite sport?

Results don’t happen overnight. Just like rowing is a continual process, so is training. Work hard. Play hard. Spend the winter months building your cardio base and strengthening for the season that lies ahead. Your training plan should be specific to your season’s goals, whatever they may be: Not to finish dead last. Improve your previous standing. Personal best. Or, like many rowers, it’s all about the hardware.

Train …..Race…..Reward

Just like at your job, you may be gearing up for a key presentation. The majority of your time is in the preparation (90%) and only 10% is in the execution; the actual presentation. Isn't rowing the same way? Most of your time is spent on the water working things out - training, strengthening, learning. Come regatta day, you have great expectations to execute flawlessly. On race day, training and execution become one.

Most importantly, remember to have FUN!
